Never, ever, ever just don't hand it in and accept a zero. Talk to the prof and tell them what happened. Even if you hand in the broken bones, you'll probably get some marks.
Why do I say this? Because I had one class where I was sitting in the high 90s and I didn't hand in the last assignment. I did reasonably well on the final, and when I went to get my final mark? INC (Incomplete). AAAAHHHHRRGG! I eventually got it all sorted out, but 5 minutes at the time would've saved me hours of waiting in lines to get it sorted out later.
