AGGGGGHHHHHH

In one of my classes, our final project is to fully reconstruct a rodent's skeleton from an owl pellet. I have removed almost all of my bones from the fur, and after work I'm supposed to go work on it with a friend. So I packed it all up, and as I'm about to put it in a bag, I DROP the container and all of the bones go FLYING, most of them shattering on impact.

There goes 8% of my final grade.. but it should be okay, right? I am currently sitting at a 99% and this project really only is worth the 8. Do you guys think I should just not hand it in and accept a zero? I have asked to purchase a replacement pellet but the only day I'll be able to get that is Monday, and the project is due on Wednesday.

Never, ever, ever just don't hand it in and accept a zero. Talk to the prof and tell them what happened. Even if you hand in the broken bones, you'll probably get some marks.

Why do I say this? Because I had one class where I was sitting in the high 90s and I didn't hand in the last assignment. I did reasonably well on the final, and when I went to get my final mark? INC (Incomplete). AAAAHHHHRRGG! I eventually got it all sorted out, but 5 minutes at the time would've saved me hours of waiting in lines to get it sorted out later.

..Thank you so much for leaving this comment. I actually ended up talking to a person who was in the class last semester and she ended up with INC too, because she didn't do the pellet, though I have a feeling she was also failing the course at the time. How did you get everything sorted out?

Seriously, thank you for warning me about this.

This was all at the University of Saskatchewan, in case you are curious. :) It was a computer class with a huge design project that was supposed to be 50% of the mark, a final that was 40% and ten assignments that were worth 10%. I knew we were doing really well with the project so late in the class when time was short and there was a lot of pressure. The last assignment was huge and was going to take up a lot of time, so I just thought "It's only worth 1% of my final mark... I'd rather just skip it, and spend the time on other, more important things."

So then you know about the incomplete. So the first thing I did was contact the assistant/marker. He just told me that if I had handed in *anything*, he would've checked it and marked it as complete, even if he gave me a zero. So then I had to talk to a student counselor. They made an appointment with the Registrar's office. After I met with them, I had to get a paper signed by my professor and by the department dean. And because they are such busy people, it took *forever* to track them down. But in the end, it was all sorted out and I got credit for the class.

Oh, and I'm guessing you're wondering who I am that I'm reading your journal. *blush* Well, actually, it's [info]ellorgast's fault. I'm a huge fan of EGL style, but I've found no one around here who I can share with. And one day I ran across some pictures of someone in the style who looked amazing. And then I found out they were from Lethbridge! And while that's still pretty far away, my grandmother used to live there and I would visit when I was younger, so it was like there was someone else Lolita in the prairies! So I friended her. And through her, I found your livejournal.

I hope that's ok! I've been a lurker for a while, but when I saw your post about not handing in that assignment, I just had to say something. So... umm... Hello from Saskatchewan!
